Fantasy Illustrator

Fantasy Illustrator

Hello and welcome to my blog . . .

A little bit about illustrating in the 1960's – 1980's era.

Fantasy illustrations are often played out by an illustrator, and with the explosion of LP record sleeves being in demand for the music industry; along with posters often to be found covering students walls, Illustrators found a whole new way to express themselves over and beyond the traditional fine art that had held popularity for many centuries.

With the explosion of the 'Baby Boomers' and the passing of the grim times of world war II, people wanted to feel 'alive' again and to express themselves through creativity with new forms of art, music and dance and writings.

As time wore on, and computers began to gain in popularity, the need for illustrating of the late 60's, 70's and 80's fell away as online illustrating took over.

Collectors of Illustrations:

These redundant pieces of illustration, often highly executed work, began to appear in collectors books and the original illustration began to be sort after fetching often well into the six figure prices.

What was often to be found in the illustrators studios is now being slowly released.

Diane's own journey in illustrating -

Starting at a very young age, Diane's mind was overflowing with expressions of art wanting to burst into life and overflow into illustrators. She began at junior school and was encouraged to do so. She put her heart and soul into each creation, however her mind was always to express the Fantasy Worlds that enthralled her from an extremely young age. Diane began by creating this fantasy world within, for out of which would eventually lead her towards writing her Hilldot and The Dream Time Games, book series (not yet in print). A mammoth undertaking to build Hidden Lands, Hidden Worlds, histories, star travel and time travel locations, then otherly Universes. Races of beings including embracing elementals and dragons, and all manner of beasts lurking in the darker corners of the world. Her art was always a way of these colourful images rampant within her mind.

As the years rolled by, she headed into Art and Design College, and here she was taught the applications of gouache and drawing inks, a skill she still embraces today as Diane connected into her world with unceasing passion.

Down throughout the decades -

Many illustrations she kept for her own use in order for her to understand her Fantasy world. Each of her pieces represented a phase in her growth, from the natural world gradually transforming into full fantasy worlds.

This can be followed by her three pieces available as prints in her in her web-store. Reflecting back, these began with her love of nature, out of which springs the foundations of her Fantasy, and so The Squirrel, the first of these three to be completed back in the early 1980's. This then unfolded into her second illustration titled The Treetop Restaurant, a whimsical piece created with a touch of humour, but was a complete illustration with no further story line other than what the viewer can see.

Now we jump forward to 2018. A direct reflection on how she had experienced many darker years within her life. Diane's third and final piece today is that of her illustration Hidden In Plain Sight. The piece of work, embraces a transitional world as new portals begin to open up for humanity, signified by her chief character from her triple trilogy books series, The Dream Time Games. To be found within these borders are a journey from darkness into light. It encompasses Time-travel, and how old structures are being broken down.

At the bottom of the mountain, contains, what the illustrator thought were pebbles, but on closer inspection were skulls Forty-two! . . . not built on the shoulders of the sacrifices of others, but her own, spanning back over many lifetimes to the present now moment.

Lastly -

Although Diane has no doubt that these three framed original illustrations will each be of value within the six figure, as this has already been voiced to her. She is following the advice from speaking to fantasy illustrators who reflect her own pieces from a similar training.

For a short period only, Diane is making them available for open offers within five figures only for discerning collectors, to allow her books to be published, in her seeking to bringing her dreams to fulfilment.

Do note however :

After this short window of time, Diane's originals will then be only available thereafter at a six figure price.

I will close this blog for today

With one more statement, and that is in order for me to bring my own creativity into being, I practice at all times, mindfulness, meditation, and total surrendering and service. All my creativity stems from my heart centre, for I have found this will bring the purest passion with creativity without exception.

A call to action -

If you are a collector and would like to invest in this once in a lifetime opportunity, please do contact Diane with your offer. All pieces can be viewed in print format on her website Web Store All sold originals will come newly framed by a registered quality framer and will have a signed document of ownership by the illustrator as illustrations are not signed as in fine arts.

Do sign up to receive your newsletter, all that is required is a name and a valid email address.

Until we meet again from cross the airwaves, may your heart star shine brightly.

Lord Of The Rings - The T.V.

Posted on 29 April, 2019 at 9:40 Comments comments (0)

Lord Of The Rings – T.V.:

Lord Of The Rings by JRR Tolkien:

Created into a three part film series, followed by a three part film, The Hobbit, Peter Jackson magnificently built a dream series out of an impossible overly magnificently, unwieldy, wealth of description through his written fantasy world of Middle-earth.

A dedicated writer JRR Tolkien created the history, and languages of an entirely imaginary race of beings . . . the visionary of his mythical world over many years.

Oxford was his place to be, being an Oxford Don, and being among such eminent company through the 'Inklings' a group of like-mined fellows, including CS Lewis, author of The Chronicle Of Narnia series.

Amazon:

Amazon, has stepped into this world by buying the Tolkien estate rights $250 million for the T.V. With a further $250 million budget for the first two seasons.

The start of the Amazon show is delving 2000 year back into the history of Middle-earth, during the 'second Age' of which Tolkien has extensive well documented material available

A new film on the life of JRR Tolkien is made.

Peter Jackson:

In the heady days of Peter Jackson, back in the 2000's the Tolkien estate had not realised the power of the author's words; and for Peter Jackson, he held a passion for these works, bringing a maverick approach in the 'Independent Film' making. - Then followed the Harry Potter series.

Working with the backing of New Line Cinema, Jackson had a budget of $281 for the entire Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Peter was able through his enthusiasm to enhance these works with true 'soul energy', one that will be virtually impossible to repeat.

Mega – Franchises:

With high finance and the rise of the mega – franchises, brought tighter studio control which inevitably lack 'soul energy'.

Working through these franchises is not easy; making lots of money versus artificially satisfying. Make or break - this will need to be a monstrous 'hit' with the huge amount of Amazon spending.

The question we shall be waiting for is; if this fails, what then? Is it the ending of this era of mega - franchises. If Amazon succeeds is this a new monster for Hollywood?

Just a final note for today:

Throughout my own personal journey, JRR Tolkien has played a part in my life from 1971 onwards. He has brought spiritual inspiration and encouragement to me in my own writing for many-a-year, bringing his presence in a mutual sharing of our fantasy stories, and even unfolding a 'Hobbit' like venture through my channelling, which I am looking forward to share with you.

Throughout Peter Jackson's involvement with the great man, I can feel Tolkien has assisted in bring his 'soul' through Peter's hands. Maybe a director in his own right?

Costume Design - Saxon Nobleman

Posted on 27 April, 2019 at 14:40 Comments comments (0)

Saxon Nobleman

Fantasy Costume Design:

Saxon Nobleman:

The Saxon Nobleman has been used throughout Fantasy stories in various guises. This drawing of a Saxon Nobleman is the partner to the Saxon Lady in an earlier blog post. He can be used as either a hero or a dark character within the plot.

Men:

The shirt would have been woven in linen, and the breeches would be either short, in which case would scarcely reach the knees, and would have been embroidered, as depicted in the art below, or would be long. Above these breeches, the tunic would have been either linen or woollen. The legs would often be covered in leather and criss-crossed with bandages. Shoes were pointed at the toes and made of leather also.

The hair would be worn long. Broaches would have been used to fasten cloaks, other jewellery worn by the man would be rings and necklaces, made from gold or silver.

Garments on the continent would have been highly embroidered, whereas their English counterpart would have used more dye stuffs for affect.

The example here is of a Nobleman in the style of Anglo-Saxon and Danish of the era 450-1066. Danish warriors would have been known by their winged helmets when in battle.

Be Creative:

Look to create a colourful fabric board by pinning the example below in the centre of your work space. Search out small pieces of fabric examples on how you would like your costume design to look.

Fabrics:

The fabrics used would have been hand spun and woven, then stitched by hand. A lengthy process which would mean clothes would last. Wool and linen would have been the main fibres used. Leather was also incorporated as edgings for cloaks and foot wear.

An undergarment would be worn with long sleeves and overgarments would be worn shorter.

. . . And So Into Fantasy:

Do have fun creating your own design board, be bold, stepping outside of the normal, after all in fantasy all 'rules' can be changed for your own purpose and to enhance your own story. It will bring a depth to your creativity.

Fantasy Author - Terry Pratchett

Posted on 27 April, 2019 at 0:35 Comments comments (0)

Fantasy Author – Terry Pratchett:

Pratchett:

Lived and breathed his passion, and assembled a vast array of information used for referencing – His own personal library was extensive. Terry used this collected information to build and write his stories.

A prolific writer of his time, he had a unique humorous style that he had and is still loved for today.

Within his Discworld series he created 41 novels. Terry's first novel The Carpet People was published in 1971.

A World Created On A Turtle:

A world Pratchett created as a turtle, supporting four elephants, which in turn supported his discworld on their backs. Based utilising many myths of old.

A combination resulting in the amazing fantasy world evolving, sparking a plethora of ideas, resulting in his well loved, and well followed books, and still ongoing conventions.

Films and T.V. Shows:

Pratchett's film and T.V. Shows included his titled works – Hogfather, Soul Music, Going Postal, The Colour of Magic, Wyrd Sisters, Johnny and the Dead, Terry Pratchett's Unseen Academicals, and Troll Bridge.

Short Stories:

His short stories series included – Troll Bridge, Death and What Comes Next, Theatre of Cruelty, The Sea and Little Fishes.

In his later years, he lived with his wife assisting him through his years of Alzheimer's. disease in his final creations. His final discworld novel – The Shepherd's Crown was published in August 2015, five moths after his passing.

At his early-onset diagnostic of the Alzheimer's' disease, he was filmed for a BBC television programme, chronicling this experience. Terry also made a substantial public donation to the Alzheimer's Research Trust.

Born: 28th April 1948 – Died: 12th March 2015, aged 66.

Just a final note for today:

My own personal journey is in the discovering of Terry's discworld series, of which I have read many, but not all of these hilariously entertaining books. I would very much recommend if you haven't dipped into this world and, it is vibrating with you, do check these out.

Meditation - 3

Posted on 24 April, 2019 at 11:30 Comments comments (0)

Meditation – 3:

Today is a great day for meditating:

All days are good for meditation, and you will find your way to this meditation when your soul, your Inner Child needs time out to speak to you, so it is not date specific.

As we become familiar with this meditating journey, it is good to use this moment to be still within, for today we will cover this familiar journey to the sea however, we shall journey a little further.

I trust you are enjoying your own journey in life and finding those hidden gems within you.

So let us begin:

Sit or lie comfortably

Limbs uncrossed and begin by 'leaving your shoes at the front door', symbolic of leaving your outer world concerns behind. You can pick those up on leaving.

Breathing:

Entering your mind within, start by very slowly taking three deep breaths. See how deep you can breath . . . then slowly exhale, releasing all tension within.

Now Let Us Use Our Imagination:

Now let us use our imagination – or not - if you enjoy being in the tranquility of just being. The choice is yours.

Let your mind wander on your own path or my descriptive journey.

You have pulled up at the roadside in your vehicle, and on opening the door, step out, then lock it. Cover your vehicle in a layer of protective invisibility. It will still be safe on your return.

With your back to your vehicle, you will see a small gate, open it and step through.

The sun is full on your face, feeling warm but not overly hot. As you look around, you will find yourself in green pastures, infused with wild flowers of every kind, every hue.

As you walk down over the green pasture, feel the grasses gently caressing your fingertips. Breath in the fresh clean air. The sky is clear blue.

As you walk further on down to the far side of this meadow, insects and bees are in abundance. The bees are collecting the pollen to make into honey for you to enjoy. Sing gently to them for their endeavours as you walk on by.

A Second Small Gate:

As you come to the far side of these pastures, you will see another small gate. You can either decide to remain in this very enchanted meadow; or you can choose to step through this gate also. We shall return back this way for those of you who decide to stay.

For those of you who have decided to step through, you will find you are standing on the edge of a sandy beach.

Take off your shoes and socks, you can leave them there at the gate, they are quite safe. Begin by wriggling your toes in the fine grains of warm sand, let the sand trickle through your fingers.

When you are ready, walk on down, you can smell the salty sea air, and hear the waves as they gently creep up the sandy beach only to fall back into the sea again.

Go and stand on the edge of where the wet sand begins and watch the ebb and flow of this tidal water washing gently over your feet, then falling away, each time washing away any troubles of your life.

It is Fun To walk Along The Tidal Line:

It is fun to walk along the tidal line, where the sea creeps up across the sand. Let us turn to the left and as we walk, the sea water will gently wash over our feet and return outwards. The sea advances and recedes, the ebbing and flowing becomes as a rhythm, soothing and calming as the sounds of the seagulls call out to each other, out to you.

As we progress leisurely along the waters edge, to our right, back up on the dry sands is a cliff face. Turn away from the water and amble up to explore this cliff face. Here you will see an opening into a cave.

The Nearby Cave:

Let us explore, it is safe, it is cool inside, after the heat of the day.

As your eyes become accustomed to the darker light, you will be amazed at this crystal cavern. The entire rock face is full of sparkling clear quartz crystals, fully energised. The ceiling too.

Sit on a bench in the centre of this cavern and enjoy seeing each crystal, growing naturally around you. Feel energised. Let your Inner Child come and sit beside you, both enjoying the tranquil place. . . then listen . . . what does your Inner Child say?. . . What does your Inner Child wish to share? . . . listen . . . listen . . . listen.

It Is Time To Go:

It is time to go, so turn away from the crystal cavern and head out of the cave and back down to the water's edge. It is still there as you glide through the waters.

The seagulls come to greet you again like an old lost friend.

When you have reached back along the beach to where you had arrived, head back up the beach to the little gate.

Dust of the grains of sand from between your toes and souls of your feet, and put your socks and then your shoes back on.

Open the gate and step through. As we walk back up through the meadow, we are joined by those of you who have chosen to stay in this enchanted meadow.

The bees are still hard at work collecting the pollen.

On reaching the first gate that you stepped through, you are now back out onto the roadside and your vehicle is there for you exactly as you left it . . . drive carefully.

The Conclusion:

In your moments of returning do remember what it is your Inner Child has revealed with you, for you many find gems of hidden wisdom that you have discovered, you can use on your journey of life.

Consider:

It is always good to take time out of the rat-race of life, for if you don't make time to sit with your Inner Child, you may miss out entirely on your buried treasure, your hidden gems.

Just a final note for today:

It is good to surrender to your inner truth when the world becomes too much, for only then can Light pour in. What gems have your Inner Child shared with you today?

Topic Of The Day - Green Screen

Posted on 24 April, 2019 at 11:30 Comments comments (0)

Topic Of The Day - Green Screen:

Green Screen:

Green screen is the topic of the day – whereby a large screen of green is used as a backdrop in order for characters in the story line are able to act out in front of, then the green screen can be used to form many different environments.

The Lord Of The Rings has extensive additional DVD footage devoted entirely to the making of . . . It brings the wonders of this world of filming and the bringing together huge aspects of this industry into one.

Miniatures come to life, as they can enhance alternatively 'shot' backgrounds. They then can be blended together using the green screening to receive both digital and real live shots in the art of creative filmmaking within the realms of the computer – a marvellous tool to make this all happen.

As A Mere Armchair Creature:

As I am an armchair creature, I am truly fascinated at how this all works. So when I watch films of a fantasy or Sci-fi nature, I can embrace the emotions of merging as one within the unfolding story.

Just a final note for today:

I will leave it there for today. The purpose of including this topic is purely to lay the foundations of the expansiveness of the range of the community that will be brought together by experts, brought into this community by the Universe.

Fantasy Costume Design

Posted on 23 April, 2019 at 7:25 Comments comments (0)

Fantasy Costume Design:

Fantasy Stories:

Fantasy stories are often placed within the author's mind in an imaginary 'history'. It is good to use known history as a starting basis ready to expand into your own alternative history.

Example:

I am including for your use today a female figure as an example of a starting point (many more to follow).

The example here is of a Lady dresses in the style of Anglo-Saxon and Danish of the era 450-1066.

Dress styles would change very slowly unlike our current times, or as fantasy, other eras can be worked together, whatever you are inspired to do.

Be Creative:

Look to create a colourful dress board by pinning the example in the centre of your work space. Search out small pieces of fabric examples on how you would like your costume design to look.

Adornments would have been used of broaches, made from gold and silver; beads would also be popular for necklaces.

Embroidery was another decorative approach, along with natural dye-stuff for added colour.

Science Fiction or Science Fact

Posted on 22 April, 2019 at 9:05 Comments comments (0)

Science Fiction or Science Fact

Stephen Hawking:

Born: 18th January 1942 – Died 14th March 2018 in Cambridge, U.K.

A well known British Professor of Theoretical Physics – Cosmologist, Who suffered for 50 years with the degenerative motor neurone disease (MND), which eventually left him both paralysed and without speech.

I was drawn to watch a YouTube concerning his last and final paper working with co-author Thomas Hurka – Professor of Philosophy at the University of Toronto.

The paper 'A Smooth Exit From Eternal Inflation?' was published in the the Journal of High Energy Physics, on 27th April 2018.

Big Bang Theory:

Hawking had been looking at the mathematical probability of multi-universes, and has suggested the sending of a spaceship with a probe, into a black hole in search of this theory.

Also he discusses the possibilities of - at the moment of the 'Big Bang' theory, other universes were created.

Move To Another Universe?:

Stephen Hawking goes on to say, that we, as a race should be looking to move off our planet Earth, in this world of science before it is too late and it fades into blackness, 'National Geographic'.

The suggestion is to find another planet, the question is perhaps another universe? This multi-universes has concerned Hawking since 1983.

Russian Scientist:

Around twenty years prior, a Russian scientist had written an article concerning multi-universes, so this is not a new theory.

. . . And So Into Fantasy:

Within my own triple trilogy books, 'The Dream Time Games' (unpublished), the first book 'Padlight' (read to several audiences), the main characters leave this universe into a neighbouring universe and arrived briefly on the 'Fish Planet', with the statement that this neighbouring universe may also be recalled!

. . . so not a wise move on behalf of scientists. Our universe is one of six about to be recalled as they fade into blackness or become newly formed unstable universes at a much denser level.

Over the years, through many near death portal experiences, I have gradually mapped the formation of the layers of multi-universes. I have discovered they extend beyond count, beyond multiples of trillions at each level. There are multiples of 'Big Bangs'. I have also discovered there is a scientific order of all universes, and that I shall unveil within my fantasy book series.

So Enjoy the Curiosity of the Mind:

Do enjoy the curiosity of the mind, it's all great fun, and the answers are there within, not 'out there'.

The Conclusion:

Science has always lagged far behind matters of an open heart, where much IS, but often not shared, for the universe will unfold to all. It is a matter of time before the two converge.

Consider:

Science fact, science fiction and fantasy are all interwoven, there are many truths hidden within. Just listen to your heart.

Just a final note for today:

Just keep an open mind and allow these matters to come through.
